Due to COVID-19 restrictions, including work from home directives and border closures, Essendon Fields suspended free shuttle services to and from Essendon Station and Melbourne Airport during 2020.
During this time, we also welcomed the commencement of the Route 477 PTV bus, a direct public transport connection to Essendon Station operating 7 days per week, the culmination of long-term planning between Essendon Fields and the Department of Transport.
With the regular service that PTV have supplied, and reduced demand for EF shuttle services, it has been decided that the free services as they were operating will not resume.
Further information on available alternatives for visitors, staff and airline passengers can be found below:
Essendon Station Connections
Public Transport Victoria commenced operating the Route 477 bus through the precinct in 2020, which offers a regular option for connecting to Essendon Train Station. The service operates 7 days per week, 365 days per year, and departs every 20 minutes during peak times (as well as regularly throughout the day).
Route 477 bus (English Street stop) departs from outside Essendon Fields Central, with an average travel time to the station of under 15 minutes.
Tram Service 59 (stop 56 on Earl Street, Airport West) is another option to connect to the station (or directly into the city, but this does take slightly longer than the bus).
For further information and to plan your trip ahead please visit Public Transport Victoria’s Journey Planner.
